On Sunday, October 22, 2006, the American Freedom Riders held a 100 mile motorcycle ride along southeastern Arizona's border with Mexico. The ride started in Benson, Az, paralleled the infamous "Naco Corridor", and ended in Tombstone, Az.
On this beautiful, sunny Arizona day, bikers from the southwest did the job our federal government refuses to allow the Border Patrol to do - they secured the U.S./Mexico border at its hottest illegal immigration/drug smuggling location!
Co-sponsoring the ride was the National Border Patrol Council's Local 2544, the union representing the very agents responsible for securing the Tucson Border Patrol Sector, and Friends of the Border Patrol, the California based non-profit organization that has defended Border Patrol agents in El Paso, Texas.
Hundreds of motorcycle riders, including our own Tucson Sector based Border Patrol agents, were joined by a caravan of supporters in cars and trucks as we drove to the Naco line to send a loud message to America and President George W. Bush, which was to show our support for America's Border Patrol agents. Especially the two agents from El Paso, Texas who have been persecuted by the Department of In-Justice and Department of Homeland In-Security and were convicted for doing their job by trying to stop a drug smuggler!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the ride, especially the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success. Sincere appreciation goes to the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever and his deputies for their support and assistance. It's also important to thank the Silver Palace in Tombstone, Olde Tymer's in Bisbee, and Big Boys Arena Bar in Benson who donated professional banners for the event and Helldorado in Tombstone who provided their parking lot where everyone parked at the end of the day.
Additional thanks to the event speakers: Arizona Congressional candidate and event emcee Randy Graf, T.J. Bonner, national president of the NBPC, Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, and Cindy Kolb, a Patriot activist thru and thru.
Andy Ramirez also spoke and fired up the riders. Andy is chairman of Friends of the Border Patrol and has appeared repeatedly as an expert witness before Congress. For years, he has led the fight to defend Border Patrol agents under seige by the Bush Administration.
See you at the next ride! American Freedom Riders events are enjoyable and memorable.
